Real Wood Floors That Last in the High Desert
There is nothing quite like the warmth and character of real hardwood. It anchors a home, increases resale value, and brings nature indoors—perfect for the Boulder lifestyle. But let’s be honest: Colorado is tough on wood. Between our intense UV exposure and extreme dryness, “standard” hardwood installation doesn’t cut it here. At Right This Way Flooring, we specialize in high-performance engineered hardwoods that give you the authentic look you crave with the structural stability your home needs.

A Match for “Mountain Modern” Design
Whether you are in a historic bungalow in Old Town or a glass-walled new build in Superior, hardwood softens modern lines and adds organic warmth that matches our foothills backdrop.
In a windy, dusty area like the Front Range, hardwood is a lifesaver. It doesn’t trap allergens, pine pollen, or dust mites, making it the healthiest choice for active families.
Unlike trends that fade, real oak, maple, and hickory floors are an investment. When installed correctly for our climate, they can last for generations, evolving with the character of your home.
In humid climates, solid wood is king. But here, where humidity drops to 10–15%, solid wood shrinks, gaps, and cups. Engineered Hardwood is real wood—it has a thick top layer of genuine oak or hickory—but it sits on a cross-laminated core. This construction locks the wood in place, preventing it from warping when the seasons shift from dry winter to monsoon summer.
We love solid wood, but in the Front Range, it requires strict humidity control (a whole-home humidifier is a must) and narrower plank widths (under 3 inches) to stay stable. If you want wide planks, engineered is the safer, smarter choice.
Not all engineered floors are the same. We only carry products with thick wear layers (3mm–6mm) that can be sanded and refinished in the future, just like solid wood. You get the longevity of solid with the stability of engineered.
The most requested style in Boulder County. 7-to-9-inch wide planks in light, natural tones make spaces feel larger and more serene.
High gloss is out; texture is in. Wire-brushed finishes are perfect for the Colorado lifestyle because they naturally hide the small scratches from dog claws and hiking grit.
We are seeing a move away from dark, reddish woods toward natural “wheat” colors and grey-beiges that hide dust and reflect our abundant natural light.
We don’t just drop off the wood and start nailing. We let the wood acclimate in your home to match your specific temperature and humidity, ensuring tight joints.
We test your subfloor moisture levels before a single plank goes down. If your concrete is releasing moisture (common in basements), we apply a moisture barrier to protect your investment.
We will be honest with you. If you choose a specific species that is sensitive to dryness, we will advise you on the humidification systems needed to keep your warranty valid.
For homes with big south-facing windows, we recommend woods with UV-cured finishes to slow down fading from the harsh high-altitude sun.
Price includes Colorado climate expertise.
Yes, if you buy quality. The engineered floors we sell have a thick top layer that can be sanded and refinished 1–3 times, depending on the thickness. Cheap, big-box store versions often cannot be refinished.
Technically, it’s a grass, but it behaves like wood. It is extremely hard (durable) but can be sensitive to humidity swings. We can help you decide if it’s right for your specific home environment.
In Colorado, less water is more. Never wet-mop your wood floors. Use a microfiber dust mop for daily cleaning and a specific hardwood cleaner (like Bona) for spot cleaning to prevent water damage.
It’s a rating of how resistant wood is to denting. Hickory and Oak are high on the scale (great for busy homes), while Walnut is softer (better for low-traffic areas). We’ll help you pick the right hardness for your lifestyle.
Yes. Hardwood is one of the few flooring materials that adds quantifiable resale value to a home in the Boulder/Denver market.
